Assisting the Poor and Homeless
In 1997, Central opened the Outreach Center as an extension of its programs to aid Atlanta's impoverished and homeless residents. In 2002, the center expanded its mission to include advocacy—organizing efforts to develop and promote fair and compassionate public policies that address economic injustice.
The Central Outreach & Advocacy Center (COAC) is maintained as an independent, non-profit agency separate from the church, and is administered by an independent board and staff. You can find out more about the center's history and current work by visiting its website
The Arts Ministry of the OAC Needs Your Help
The OAC offers a time of art ministry each Thursday morning. It has proven to be an important ministry for many of our guests who come into the OAC. Oftentimes, they use art as a way to express what is going on in their lives. It can be very therapeutic to those who take part in this ministry. We are currently very low on the supplies that we have in stock for art, and we are asking for your help in replenishing our supplies. The items are:
- Firewire line or another item to string necklaces and bracelets
- Drawing paper
- Drawing pencils
- Paper plates
- Stencil books
- Scissors (there's currently only one pair)
- Old magazines for collages
- Ink pens
- Embroidery floss
- Cardstock
- Envelopes and postage to send cards on special occasions
You may leave your contributions in the OAC barrels (labeled for food donations) located throughout the church. Thanks in advance for your contributions! If you are ever interested in being a part of the art ministry, we would welcome you on Thursday mornings!
