The Bookworms group is for all Centralites and friends who love to read and talk about what they have read. We meet evenings, in members’ homes, on the fourth Tuesday of the month, September through May. At our meetings, we discuss a book—fiction or nonfiction—previously selected. Our meetings are very informal, with discussion often branching out into diverse areas suggested by comments about the book. Discussion is followed by refreshments and individual conversations; we enjoy each other’s company. Upcoming book selections and author, along with the date, time, and place, are announced regularly in The Weekly.

We Bookworms welcome newcomers. Becoming a member of the group is easy: Simply show up at the next meeting, no formal registration required, no application form to battle.

  • Sept. 23, 2008: Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, reviewed by Camille Gaffron at the home of Becky Battle. The meeting time is changed to 7:00 to allow for the fall pot luck supper.
  • Oct 28, 2008: The Road by Cormac McCarthy, reviewed by Jean Ellen Jones at Villa International.
  • Nov. 18, 2008: The Book Thief by Markus Zsak, reviewed by Mary Caroline Lindsay at the home of Bede Campbell.
  • Jan. 27, 2008: The River of Doubt by Candice Millard, reviewed by Wayne and Anne Anderson at their home..
  • Feb. 24, 2008: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz, reviewed by Vicki Collier at the home of Mary Caroline Lindsay..
  • March 24, 2008: The Sea by John Banville, reviewed by Marion Satterfield at the home of Lynne Jones.
  • April 28, 2008: One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus, reviewed by Sherry Wright at the home of Leslie Pope and Judy Kisla .
  • May 26, 2008: Desert Queen by Janet Wallach, reviewed by TBA at the home of Jean Ellen Jones and Alan Pieper.  The meeting time is changed to 7:00 to allow for the end-of-year potluck supper.
