Works of Love in Service to Our Neighbors

The season of Lent is a time to renew our understanding of what it means to follow Jesus. During these 40 days, we are invited to journey from ways that are self-centered to ways that are self-giving, as a sign of the new life made possible through Christ’s resurrection. Among the spiritual disciplines we undertake during this season is the practice of works of love.

Assisting the Central Outreach and Advocacy Center with the provision of items necessary to meet basic needs for health and hygiene provides us with an opportunity to practice works of love in service to the most vulnerable members of Central’s community.

During Lent, the Community Ministry Committee is coordinating the collection of personal hygiene kits for guests of the OAC. Our goal is to collect at least 200 kits.

Members are asked to contribute hygiene kits in quart size plastic bags that contain the following travel-size items:

  • Razor
  • Deodorant
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Shampoo
  • Soap

In addition to providing an opportunity for personal growth and service, this work of love in service to our neighbors could also be a meaningful project for a family, group of friends, neighbors, or co-workers, a parish, etc.

Please bring your contributions to the marked containers in Tull Hall on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010, and we will deliver them to the OAC on your behalf.
